About FitMind
FitMind is a nonprofit—technically a subsidiary of the 501(c)(3) Mental Fitness Labs Inc.—that aims to elevate individuals beyond conventional standards of well-being toward optimal mental fitness. Serving as a reliable bridge between science and traditional meditation practices, we embody the principles of generosity and depth:
Generosity:
Our resources are freely accessible to all.
We find joy in supporting others to develop mental fitness.
Depth:
Rooted in wisdom texts like the Pali Suttas.
Informed by science (without embracing scientism as a modern religion).
We create content, protocols, and technologies that guide individuals in understanding their minds and training sublime qualities. Additionally, FitMind welcomes collaboration with academics, teachers, and nonprofits to make rigorous meditation training accessible for everyone.
Our Approach
The FitMind philosophy is pragmatic and tradition-based. FitMind teaches methods—both modern and ancient—that reliably increase well-being and produce transformative insights. However, we largely draw upon the traditional systems of mental development, particularly the Suttas of the Pali Canon.
We believe that skillful practice involves:
Good Intentions: With the logic that a better world begins in our minds, the practice is rooted in compassion for all. We also aim to foster a harmonious FitMind community over time.
Balanced Effort: Practice ought to be enjoyable, despite inevitable challenges. We discourage practices that involve unnecessary force or pain. There is surely effort required, but it is the effort to repeatedly cultivate positive mental states.
Natural Progress: Relatedly, awareness and wisdom result naturally from genuine meditation training. We teach a gradual path that emphasizes virtuous character traits and application in daily life.
Deep Transformation: FitMind’s programs are designed to lead earnest practitioners toward the most profound understandings of the mind and, ultimately, awakening.
Simplicity.
Resource Allocation
FitMind operates with efficiency and responsibility. We honor each donation dollar by putting it toward the highest good.
FitMind’s priority is to make its teachings free and widely accessible to all who are interested. For example, our future aspirations include:
Creating a meditation retreat center.
Developing novel neurotechnology, such as an “Awareness Machine” that notifies people when their mindfulness has gone offline.
Secondarily, FitMind can support projects that align with its core principles. For example:
Funding a documentary film series about the science of in-depth meditation.
Helping an academic research meditation or design a meditation training program.
FitMind will also support Liam’s teaching and monastic training. For example:
Covering travel expenses to a monastery.
Purchasing a health supplement or educational book.
