Episode Overview
Massimo Pigliucci, PhD is a Professor of Philosophy at the City College of New York, former co-host of the Rationally Speaking Podcast, and one of the most influential modern Stoics.
The stoic philosophy, originating in Greece over two millennia ago, is all about how to live a good life, finding happiness by training your mind.
For example, famous stoic and Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius said, "You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength."
That’s a classic stoic way of thinking, and we’ll unpack more in this episode. We go in-depth on Stoicism, what it is, and how to apply it in everyday life.
Some topics we discuss:
everyone has a philosophy of life; have you given any thought to yours or are you living one by default?
the 4 Stoic Virtues
how cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) was inspired, in part, by Stoicism
practices for enhancing daily life using Stoic wisdom
Hope you enjoy!
