Episode Overview
Steven Kotler is an expert on the science of flow states, which he wrote about in The Rise of Superman and Stealing Fire.
The term “flow” was first coined by American-Hungarian psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (pronounced me-high cheek-sent-me-high) in 1990 to describe this optimal mental state.
Everyone has been in a flow state at some point: it’s when you’re so fluidly immersed in an activity that you lose your sense of self and time. Think of a skier speeding down the slopes, a student cranking out their next essay, or a hip-hop enthusiast jamming out to the latest album— that’s flow.
This episode centers around the neuroscience and psychology of flow states and the future of flow technology using machine learning.
